Each week on The Stretched Blog, I ask an ice breaker question. The questions are designed to help us get to know each other here in The Stretched Community. I’ll provide my answer to the question here in the post, and then you can leave your response in the comments. While you’re in the comments section, see how others answered the ice breaker question.

While we were on vacation, we had an opportunity to visit with my Grandpa who lives in Minneapolis.  He flew down to Milwaukee to spend a couple of days with my brother and I and our families.  My Grandpa has a huge heart for evangelism.  When he meets someone new, he almost always asks them two questions.  His first question is the inspiration for this week’s Stretched Ice Breaker.

Question:  How can The Stretched Community pray for you?

My Answer:  I mentioned it in a post a couple of weeks ago.  Our family could use your prayers as we prepare for our trip to Guatemala.  Two weeks from tomorrow, we leave for Newark, NJ where we will depart for Guatemala.  There are several details that we need to finalize.  I need to finalize the financial end of things with GO! Ministries which I should take care of this weekend.  Isaac is finishing up his Typhoid medication this week.  We need to pack for the trip which includes packing up material for care packages that we will be giving to the ~200 widows who live in the village of Xenacoj.  On top of that, we would appreciate your prayers for safety and effectiveness as we travel and minister in Xenacoj.

Answer this week’s ice breaker question by leaving a comment. I look forward to reading your response! (As always, feel free to share links.) And keep STRETCHING!

With this week’s question and answers, I would encourage you to pick at least one of the requests mentioned in the post or the comments and pray.

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.  James 5:16

Pray for my wife in dealing with her Parkinson’s Disease, or can I be bold and ask that she is cured. Also pray that my kids, 10 and 12, continue to seek God and make good choices.

I want prayer for my role in my new church. Things are beginning to reveal themselves, but I just want them to continue to open up.

I could use prayer for my wife and I. We had to put down one of our dogs just over a month ago. My heart still aches and I’m struggling with the decision still. I know there’s nothing I can do to bring him back but everything is kind of numb and dull now.

      Got it, Joe.

So sorry to hear this, Joe! I lost my beloved pet of 16 years two years ago. It’s very hard to let go of a loyal companion. Will pray for you!

Lily, thanks for the prayer and understanding. I’m sorry you’ve had to go through a similar loss. Never, ever have I imagined it would be this hard to lose my boy.

It is a tough loss. Those of us who’ve lost a special pet understand the pain.

Yes, yes it is. It’s amazing the coldness that can be felt from those that don’t understand. They think it’s just an animal. It’s not…

I am waiting to hear if I got a job that I have done two interviews now for. This is kind of my dream job, and it was a little over three years so that I first set out to get this specific job at this specific school.. It is the Principal role at James Dottke Alternative High School. The candidacy process started in mid May and now it is mid July so there has been a lot of waiting and work for a presentation, and
Anxiety. But at my presentation a little over a week ago the said we should hear if we will go on to the next stage or not either late this week or early next week. So today could be the day, or maybe Monday. I hope I get it, but I also hope that if I get it, that I can be good at it.

I kind of need just plain old general purpose prayer, God knows better what I need than I do. I commented several days ago over at conversationswithlife.com, and I quote (actually copy and paste), “… because for me, even I tire of the endless list of stuff that, in my opinion, God needs to do for me …”.

I’ll pray for blessings and safety for you and your family’s trip to Guatemala.

Thanks, David. And I’ll pray for you.

Could use prayer about a possible move–selling one house, buying another.

    • http://jonstolpe.com/ Jon Stolpe

Got it! Any info on where you would be moving?

        Yes. :-)
