Looking After Widows And Orphans

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

James 1:27

How are you and I living this out today?

this world?

Today, I’m hooking up with The Sunday Community.  Hop on over here to see what I’m talking about.

Love this! Sometimes it seems like I just can’t do enough when I read about child trafficking and all that happens in the world. But I do have a little boy in Guatemala with a shy smile that I sponcer through Compassion International. It is not much, but it matters to him.

Thanks for stopping by today, Gayle. I think it’s a balance. We as Christians need to dream big and think big, but we also need to start with the basic and simple things that can make a difference for one person. What thing that helps is to remember that God is way bigger than all of us – our problems, our failed efforts, everything! I have a special place in my heart for the kids in Guatemala. I took this picture this summer while walking through the streets of a small town in Guatemala.

This is a topic that has been on my mind as well. The last two in-depth bible studies I have done have challenged me to reach the poor and oppressed. Obviously the Lord is wanting to speak to me about this topic. I’m listening!! I sponsor two little girls in Tanzania through Compassion International. In addition, a tithe of all the profits from the sale of my Bible study and other materials is donated to Wellspring Living, an organization working to assist women and girls to leave the sex trafficking industry.

Leah, those seem like great places to start. I guess my challenge and perhaps yours as well is to figure out what else we can do to follow this in our daily lives. I want to leave it all out there.

I love the picture paired with the verse! SO pretty!

Thanks, Ruthie. I took the picture while walking the streets of Xenacoj, Guatemala this summer. We had the opportunity to pray with this young mother and her two children.

wow, powerful picture. When my best friend was widowed for 7 years I spent hours and hours with her just listening and praying and talking. It was a great lesson of giving and friendship for me. She is now married but I won’t eve forget that time of ministry.
