Ice Breaker – Verse of the Day

Today’s question is simple.  For those of you who are new or who forgot, ice breaker questions are used to help people get to know each other – to “break the ice” so to speak.  I love hearing what other people have to say and how they think.  So for today, I’m excited to throw out another simple ice breaker question.  I’ll answer it first, then it’s your turn.  Answer the question by leaving a comment for us all to enjoy.  Thanks!

Question:  What is your favorite Bible verse?  Or what verse have you been hanging onto lately?

Simple question; simple answer.

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.  And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.  Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.  Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.  Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.  Colossians 4:2-6

So there you have it, my answer to the question.  Now it’s your turn….I can’t wait to hear what you’ve got to say!

Jon, I am hung up on Psalm 34:8 — O taste and see that the Lord is good…..just that part of it. It’s driving a lot of what I’m doing now.

Psalm 3:3 is my life verse. It is a perfect description of what God does for all of us. “But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head”

Reading Leah’s and Larry’s answers prompted me to think of Psalm 139, especially verse 16: “All the days of my life were written in your book before even one of them came to be.”

But without the prompt, I find it hard to settle on a particular verse.

My favorite vese is Ecclisiates 11:3–when the clouds are full of rain, it rains, whether a tree falls to the north or a tree falls to the south, there it lies.

This is biblical proof that no matter where you go, there you are.

There are so many to choose from, but I guess my particular favorite is Luke 11:9.  ”ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

My life verse is Psalm 37:5 Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you.
It reminds me of my commitment to follow Christ, to keep my trust in Him, and to know how He has blessed me in many ways.

im gonna have to go with yours Jon…

you see, i’ve been thinking alot about conversations…

    Jesus had conversations…with everyone…no matter who…

from the time he was 12 and in the temple alone talking with the leaders and scribes…
    to fisherman…to a 4 time devorcee…unwed lady…

    Here
are a couple of my KJV favorites:

    At
Parbar westward, four at the causeway, and two at Parbar. (1 Chronicles 26.18)

    And
Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be
childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal. (1 Samuel 15.33)

    More
seriously, these two have been patterns for my journey with Jesus:

I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and
the sharing of his sufferings by becoming like him in his death, if somehow I
may attain the resurrection from the dead. (Philippians 3:10-11)

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to set out for a
place that he was to receive as an inheritance; and he set out, not knowing
where he was going. By faith he stayed for a time in the land he had been
promised, as in a foreign land, living in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who
were heirs with him of the same promise. For he looked forward to the city that
has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. (Hebrews 11:8-10)

    Act 2: 15-18:
These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 “‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy. The Lord is doing it….. college students, lunch ladies, single mom’s, kids, women, men… The Lord IS pouring out his spirit among us and we are seeing these things come to pass.  I had the privilege of bring the word at Cru at SRU last night and man did the Holy Spirit show up and MOVE!!!  Praise God.  Read about it at cindystarrstewart.wordpress.com So good to see you here blogging Jon!  The Lord is pouring out his spirit at GCC too…and many other places.  Yeah Jesus!
